Blu-Ray Review: Great Comedy Ensemble in Disappointing ‘Paul’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 17, 2011 - 1:53pmCHICAGO – On paper, “Paul” should easily be one of the best comedies of 2011 to date. The cast is amazing, including two leads who also wrote the scripts for the brilliant “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz.” The director is talented. The premise is clever and entertaining. But movies don’t exist in paper. Overall, the talent of the ensemble keep the piece moving but “Paul” is an undeniable disappointment.
Film Review: Jason Bateman, Ryan Reynolds Buried By ‘The Change-Up’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 5, 2011 - 8:28amCHICAGO – “The Change-Up” is an undeniable mess, as any movie that opens with a grown man getting baby crap projected into his mouth would be (and that’s just the beginning), but one of the worst scripts of the year is saved from the depths of comedy hell by a talented cast headlined by the typically-restrained Jason Bateman playing against type.

Blu-Ray Review: Avoid Dull Trip to ‘Couples Retreat’
Submitted by BrianTT on February 11, 2010 - 9:47amCHICAGO – It seems ironic that “Couples Retreat,” a film about a group of friends who think they’re going on a peaceful vacation but get hoodwinked into couples counseling, is itself a bait-and-switch, advertising a sexy comedy and delivering a dull trip. Avoid this awful excuse for a comedy.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Extract’ Aims Satire at Land of Idiocracy
Submitted by mattmovieman on December 22, 2009 - 11:53amCHICAGO – Mike Judge is fascinated by the culture of stupid. His characters are so desperate to shake up the listless patterns of their lives that they’ll resort to antics far below their normal IQ level. Judge’s third live-action feature is aimed at a generation addicted to smoking pot and watching “Family Guy,” two compulsions often used as an easy escape route from reality.
