TV Review: Mediocre ‘Best Friends Forever’ Could Be Better, Probably Won’t Last Long

CHICAGONBC’s new sitcom “Best Friends Forever” could have been significantly worse — I had awfully low expectations for another NBC relationship comedy premiering at a time of the year when hits are uncommon — but it’s also in no way memorable enough to feel like required viewing or something that’s going to be around for any significant amount of time.

TV News: NBC Renews ‘Smash’ For Second Season

Smash

CHICAGO – Since it slid in weeks two and three, viewers who fell in love with NBC’s “Smash” have been biting their nails like an ingenue waiting to see if she makes the cut for callbacks. Good news, “Smash” fans: NBC renewed the show for a second season today.

TV Review: NBC’s ‘Bent’ Has Promise But Likely Won’t Have Time to Fulfill It

CHICAGO – The cast of NBC’s “Bent” is strong enough that it could easily pull that common sitcom trick of a shaky start that develops into something greater. I’m not trying to compare the programs directly in terms of quality but have you see the first 5-6 episodes of “30 Rock” now that it’s in syndication? They were awful.

TV News: NBC Renews ‘Grimm’ For a Second Season

Grimm

CHICAGO – Fans of the NBC series “Grimm” will be happy to know that there is at least another full season of the show still to come. The freshman series has officially been renewed for a second season.

TV Review: ‘Community’ Returns with Hysterically Self-Referential Episode

CHICAGO – Leave it to the writers of “Community,” one of the best shows on television, to take TV lemons and make a tasty comedy beverage out of them. After being forced into hiatus by a network that has never known how to support or promote it, “Community” is finally back on Thursday nights, pushing “30 Rock” to the spot formerly occupied by the done-for-the-season “Up All Night.”

TV News: Comedy Central Adds ‘Community’ Off-Net Rights to Network

Community

CHICAGO – It was only a few weeks ago when the cult favorite “Communtiy” didn’t have a home at all. Through two and a half seasons on NBC, the show was put on hiatus as the network decided what to do. Now, the hit comedy is returning to the NBC Thursday night lineup tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CST and it has also found a new home.

TV Review: NBC’s ‘Fashion Star’ Comes Apart at the Seams

CHICAGONBC’s “Fashion Star” could technically be considered the first highly-promoted infomercial on primetime TV. It didn’t even dawn on me until halfway through this annoyingly produced reality disaster that the show probably came into existence as the answer to how to advertise clothes to people who fast-forward through commercials.

TV Review: NBC Hopes Third Time’s the Charm with Intriguing ‘Awake’

CHICAGONBC continues to struggle on Thursday nights, producing two flops in the 9pm CST hour already this year — “Prime Suspect” and “The Firm.” Will the third time be the charm with tonight’s premiere of the highly-advertised “Awake”? While the show is intriguing, unique, and well-acted, it’s hard to see it taking off on the peacock network.

TV News: NBC’s ‘Community’ Returns to Thursday Nights in March

Community

CHICAGONBC gave us the news we’d all been hoping for since one of the best comedies on television was unceremoniously pulled from the air — “Community” will return to Thursday nights on March 15th, 2012. Of course, with good news comes bad news as “Parks and Recreation” goes on hiatus until April 19th. At that point “Up All Night” will have ended its 24-episode run and “Parks” can return. Confusing enough for you?

TV Review: Donald Trump Finds Ridiculous Ways to Entertain With ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’

CHICAGO – Who would volunteer to go on national television and be ridiculed and demeaned by not only an egotistical blowhard like Donald Trump but his two children (who, for the record, I like significantly more than dear old dad)? I understand the desire to get back in the public spotlight but at so high a cost?
