Film Review: Muddled ‘Kalamity’ Plays One-Night Only Chicago Engagement
Submitted by BrianTT on January 25, 2011 - 10:57amRating: 1.0/5.0 |
CHICAGO – There was a day not that long ago when it felt like Nick Stahl was the next rising star. He delivered nuanced performances in films and on HBO’s “Carnivale” that led one to believe there was potential for stardom. “The Thin Red Line,” “In the Bedroom,” “Bully” — he was going somewhere in the early ’00s, but he was derailed into basically nothing but straight-to-video junk like “Mirrors 2” since 2005’s “Sin City.”

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Mirrors 2’ is Even Worse Than You Imagine it Could Be
Submitted by BrianTT on October 27, 2010 - 7:38pmCHICAGO – Horror fans are a patient and resilient group. We have suffered through dozens of horrible straight-to-DVD sequels, often to films that barely worked in the first place, but we keep going back for another round of torture just in case one of them delivers (and, for the record, “Wrong Turn 2” is definitely better than the first film but the list ends shortly thereafter). The latest trip to the sequel funhouse is “Mirrors 2,” a pedestrian, predictable thriller that makes the first film look like “The Shining” by comparison. It’s horrible.
‘Sleepwalking’ Has Exactly That Potential Effect on Moviegoers
Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on March 14, 2008 - 1:47amCHICAGO – When done improperly, there’s nothing more embarrassing than actors playing against their type or social class. There is a subtlety to channeling the lower middle or the working class beyond dressing down or developing a bad hairstyle. “Sleepwalking” is the type of film that gets it wrong and just gets worse as it tries harder.
