Blu-Ray Review: Horrendous ‘Little Fockers’ Could Be Used as Torture
Submitted by BrianTT on April 19, 2011 - 12:25pmCHICAGO – “Little Fockers” would have been high on my “Worst of 2010” list if I had written one or suffered through it in theaters. It’s an awful disaster of a movie, completely devoid of laughs and downright embarrassing for everyone involved, including some incredibly talented actors. There should be some sort of atonement or movie prison for forcing this junk on families at the holiday season. It’s like getting coal for Christmas. Actually, it’s worse than coal.
DVD Review: Great James L. Brooks Misfires With ‘How Do You Know’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 4, 2011 - 11:11amCHICAGO – You won’t find a much bigger fan of James L. Brooks’ “Broadcast News,” one of my favorite romantic comedies of the ’80s, but there’s simply no denying that he’s lost his touch for character that once made him one of the best living writers. It may not be quite as big a disaster as “Spanglish,” but his newest romantic comedy “How Do You Know,” recently released on Blu-ray and DVD, is a mess, a blend of unbelievable characters, awkward pacing, and forgettable plotting that makes it one of the biggest disappointments of 2010.

Film Review: Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis Skate By in ‘Hall Pass’
Submitted by BrianTT on February 25, 2011 - 9:51amCHICAGO – The Farrelly Brothers’ “Hall Pass” is a near-miss for the directors of “There’s Something About Mary” and “Dumb & Dumber” that features enough laughs to remember when the boys were in their prime but ultimately doesn’t come enough together to get them back to it.
Interview: Peter Farrelly, Pete Jones Issue Comedy ‘Hall Pass’
Submitted by BrianTT on February 24, 2011 - 2:43pmCHICAGO – After a brief hiatus, Bobby and Peter Farrelly are back with the comedy “Hall Pass,” starring Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, Jenna Fischer, and Christina Applegate. Wilson and Sudeikis play a pair of married men longing for some time off from their marriages when they’re handed a week without repercussions. What would you do with a week-long hall pass?
Film Review: Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller Seem Bored in ‘Little Fockers’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on December 22, 2010 - 10:35amCHICAGO – The Law of Diminishing Returns is alive and well in the “Meet the Parents” Franchise, as the third film in the series, “Little Fockers,” has a lazy, we-did-it-for-the-money veneer. They got the gang back together, Robert De Niro, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Barbra Streisand and the rest, but with few exceptions they all seem bored with it all.
Film Review: Paul Rudd, Reese Witherspoon in Gloriously Romantic ‘How Do You Know’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on December 17, 2010 - 8:48amCHICAGO – Writer/Director James L. Brooks has been producing prime entertainment for nearly 50 years now, and proves he has not lost a step in ‘How Do You Know.’ This film of love, loss, power and especially romance is a great showcase for the talents of Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd, Owen Wilson and the great Jack Nicholson.

Blu-Ray Review: Stupid ‘Marmaduke’ Fails in Every Way
Submitted by BrianTT on September 7, 2010 - 12:08pmCHICAGO – How do complete disasters like “Marmaduke” get made? Shouldn’t there be some sort of quality insurance and when a studio sees that a film is this execrable, they are allowed to pull some sort of last-minute ripcord and make sure it’s never inflicted on paying customers? Wouldn’t that be a good use of our tax dollars?
Blu-Ray Review: Overly Manic ‘Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian’
Submitted by BrianTT on December 14, 2009 - 3:41pmCHICAGO – The CGI smorgasbord that is “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian” is likely to suffice as a babysitter this holiday season as eggnog is made or holiday shopping is concluded. Families are likely to be satisfied by the everything-and-the-kitchen-sink mania that will work for toddlers hopped up on Christmas candy, but the film itself will collapse for their parents, babysitters, and even their older siblings.
