CHICAGO – Roll out the red carpet on Oscar Day 2021! Throughout the years, Photographer Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago has had close encounters with many of this year’s nominees and had captured them with his intrepid camera eye. Presenting a slideshow of the 93rd Academy Awards Best Acting nominations.

CHICAGO – To top off the end of 2020, it was announced on December 30th that Dawn Wells, best known for the girl-next-door role she had as Mary Ann on the 1960s sitcom “Gilligan’s Island,” had passed away due to COVID complications. She was 82. Dawn Wells was also a friend of HollywoodChicago.com, and had posed for the camera of photographer Joe Arce on several occasions.

CHICAGO – The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) opens today (February 28th through March 1st, 2020). For three days, the best in the comic book, entertainment, TV and movie world will gather at the McCormick Place convention center on the near south side of Chicago, with epic cosplay on display.

CHICAGO – In a film that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and dropped on February 7th, 2020, at the relatively new Disney+ streaming service, “Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made,” already has proved its viability. The film is based on the youth fiction series by Stephan Pastis, who wrote the screenplay with director Tom McCarthy (“Spotlight”).

CHICAGO – One of the latest diversity-oriented TV series is “Work in Progress,’ which premiered on the Showtime Network on December 8th, 2019. The show was created by Chicago improv artists Tim Mason and Abby McEnany, who portrays a fictionalized version of herself.

CHICAGO – That’s a wrap! The 55th Chicago International Film Festival, which concluded on Sunday, October 27th, brought glam and excitement to a high energy audience of Windy City film buffs. And they brought the star power to the Red Carpet, including Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, WWE legend C.M.

CHICAGO – It’s baaaaack! One of the best annual pop culture entertainment and comic book gatherings returns to Chicagoland once again, as the Wizard World Comic Con will make its yearly visit to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Ill., the weekend of August 22th through the 25th, 2019. Besides the fan costumes, vendor booths and comic book legends, Wizard World has appearances from TV and movie celebrities, highlighted in 2019 by Jason Momoa (“Aquaman”), Ben McKenzie (“Gotham”), Henry Winkler (“Happy Days,” Barry”), Cary Elwes (“Stranger Things,” “Princess Bride”) and Melissa Joan Hart (“Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”).

CHICAGO – The annual Gene Siskel Film Center Gala – benefitting the cinema jewel of Chicago’s State Street – took place on June 15th, 2019, and packed some serious super heroism. Each year, the Center honors a special guest with their Renaissance Award, and the 2019 honor went to Jon Favreau. To interview the actor/director at the event was Robert Downey Jr., who just anchored Marvel Studios “Avengers: Endgame,” portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man.

WEST DUNDEE, Ill. – It’s been almost five years since rock singer Mike Tramp announced that his signature group, White Lion, was finally over. White Lion was a Danish/American rock band that began in 1983, and had their biggest hits four years later on the album “Pride” … “Wait” and “When Children Cry.” Mike Tramp performed at the RocHaus in West Dundee on Saturday, March 9th, 2019, and brought his acoustic guitar, rustic voice and passion for singing/storytelling to the stage.

CHICAGO – Tis the season for a holiday children’s book, and actor Sean Hayes (“Will & Grace”) and husband Scott Icenogle have co-written “Plum!,” the story of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the quest to get her wings. The couple appeared at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville (Illinois) to sign books and greet admirers.
