Star Trek Into Darkness

Blu-ray Review: ‘Star Trek: The Compendium’ Provides Victory Lap for Revitalized Franchise

Star Trek Into Darkness

CHICAGO – With J.J. Abrams not involved with the creation of a third “Star Trek” movie, a compendium of his work within the franchise only seems fitting. Loaded with special features but only a few new ones, this disc set is a strong choice for those who don’t already have both entertaining blockbusters in their collection.

Star Trek Into Darkness

CHICAGO – When you’ve got a movie as controversial among its core audience as J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness,” why would you court even more with a frustrating Blu-ray release pattern, one that essentially tries to milk the people who like the film for as much cash as conceivably possible?

Blu-ray Review: Wave of ‘Star Trek’ HD Releases Timed to ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’

Star Trek: The Next Generation: Best of Both Worlds

CHICAGO – It makes sense that Paramount would time releases of classic “Star Trek” televisions episodes in HD to coincide with the release of their sure-blockbuster “Star Trek Into Darkness” and so recent weeks have seen sets for “Star Trek: Enterprise: Season One,” “Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season Three,” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Best of Both Worlds.” All three are worth a pick-up for Trekkies and are more than mere cash-ins. They’d be strong releases without the J.J. Abrams’ film on which to piggy back.
