Interview: Michael Cera, Edgar Wright Take on ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. the World’
Submitted by BrianTT on August 11, 2010 - 2:11pmCHICAGO – With beloved films like “Superbad,” “Hot Fuzz,” and “Shaun of the Dead” (never mind the greatness of TV shows “Arrested Development” and “Spaced”), Edgar Wright and Michael Cera have nothing more to prove to their loyal fans.
Blu-Ray Review: Third Season of ‘Battlestar: Galactica’ Now in HD
Submitted by BrianTT on August 2, 2010 - 9:08amCHICAGO – How many “Battlestar Galactica” fans don’t already have the excellent third season in some form? The release pattern of “BSG” on Blu-ray continues to surprise this critic as it feels like the niche market who doesn’t own the complete HD series or hasn’t already bought the standard DVD is very small, meaning that the question for most is going to be whether or not to upgrade.
Blu-Ray Review: 50th Anniversary Edition of ‘Spartacus’
Submitted by BrianTT on June 1, 2010 - 1:04pmCHICAGO – I think nearly every film critic with an association card has bowed at the altar of Stanley Kubrick at least once in their life (if they don’t still do so). I can vividly remember first seeing “2001: A Space Odyssey,” “The Shining,” “A Clockwork Orange,” “Dr. Strangelove,” and “Full Metal Jacket,” all films I could watch any day of the week and never grow tired of them. Despite saying that, I was never a huge “Spartacus” fan, a film I admire more than love. The new Blu-ray release has not changed my mind.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Mamma Mia! The Movie’ Given Gift Set Treatment
Submitted by BrianTT on November 24, 2009 - 9:30pmCHICAGO – It’s the most wonderful time of the year for Blu-Ray and DVD collectors. Every holiday season, studios pull out their most beloved films, polish up the picture, maybe add a special feature or two, and usually throw in a few collectibles for a gift set.
Blu-Ray Review: ‘Death Race’ Movie Loses, Blu-Ray Wins
Submitted by BrianTT on December 26, 2008 - 11:00amCHICAGO – The Blu-Ray release of “Death Race” with Jason Statham and Tyrese Gibson tests the critical concept of reviewing the movie itself or purely its home presentation.
