Ingmar Persona-fied! Audio Review of ‘Bergman Island’
Rating: 3.5/5.0 |
CHICAGO – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review on the new filmmaker-on-filmmaker narrative film “Bergman Island” – the first English language film by Mia Hansen Løve – currently in select theaters, see local listings for theaters and show times.
The setting is Faro Island off of Sweden, nicknamed Bergman Island because legendary filmmaker Ingmar Bergman once lived there. An American couple, Tony and Chris (Tim Roth and Vicky Krieps) are filmmakers, and they are retreating on the Island for inspiration. Chris tells Tony of a new idea she has for a film, and suddenly that film is playing out with the couple Amy and Joseph (Mia Wasikowska and Anders Danielsen Lie). There is a parallel to their story with the couple in reality, and the line begins to blur.
