CHICAGO – Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com audio film review for “The Creator,” a new science fiction film co-written (with Chris Weitz) and directed by Gareth Edwards, the filmmaker behind the well-received Star Wars film “Rogue One.” In theaters on September 29th.
John David Washington is Joshua, an elite soldier who has dropped out of a war against Artificial Intelligence, which in 2065 has progressed to a sentient state that had launched a nuclear bomb onto Los Angeles. In retaliation, the U.S. has built a super weapon named Nomad that seeks to destroy all AI. Joshua meanwhile has fallen in love with Maya (Gemma Chan), but he is recruited to rejoin the fight through Col. Howell (Allison Janney) when an unexpected tragedy occurs. And when Joshua eventually infiltrates the NImrata, or AI Creator, he encounters a six year old girl (Madeleine Yuna Voyles) who could be the key to ending the war.
