Typogrify is a collection of Django template filters that help prettify your web typography by preventing ugly quotes and widows and providing CSS hooks to style some special cases.
Here’s the quick list of the included filters:

  • Widon’t — as coined by Shaun Inman
  • SmartyPants – originally created by John Gruber. Requires smartypants.py.
  • Initial quotes wrapped in class=”dquo” or class=”quo” depending on if they are single or double
  • Ampersands wrapped in class=”amp”. Requires smartypants.py.
  • Multiple adjacent capital letters wrapped in class=”caps” (also caps separated by .s, and caps mixed with digits)

also includes SmartyPants, which translates plain ASCII punctuation characters into “smart” typographic punctuation HTML entities including Straight quotes, Backticks-style quotes, dashes and three consecutive dots..

Straight quotes ( ” and ’ ) into “curly” quote HTML entities
Backticks-style quotes (“like this”) into “curly” quote HTML entities
Dashes (“—” and “—-”) into en- and em-dash entities
Three consecutive dots (“…”) into an ellipsis entity
