Exclusive Portrait: Paul Stanley of Rock Band KISS Unmasked
CHICAGO – Fresh from his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (along with bandmates Ace Frehley, Gene Simmons and Peter Criss), Paul Stanley of the rock group KISS stopped by last month at Anderson’s Bookshop in Naperville, Ill. to sign his new book “Face the Music: A Life Exposed”.
Paul Stanley met Gene Simmons in the early 1970s, and after an attempt to get another rock group off the ground, solicited a drummer and guitarist through ads in New York City newspapers. This resulted in finding Peter Criss (drums) and Ace Frehley (guitar) to form KISS. After experimenting with different make-up and character personas, Paul Stanley became the “starchild” in 1973 and KISS released their first album in 1974. Since then, the iconic band has sold more than 100 million albums (despite critical bashing) with Stanley and Simmons still touring. On Dec. 17, 2013, they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
