CHICAGO – Everyday is a Winding Road, as pop-rocker Sheryl Crow once reminded us. But one of her recent days included the announcement that Ms. Crow was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. The new class will be inducted on November 3rd, 2023.
Sheryl Suzanne Crow was born in Missouri, and played in a band while attending the University of Missouri. She took a job as a music teacher after graduation, in order to sing in bands on the weekends. An early collaboration with a Missouri record producer started her writing ad jingles, which eventually landed her big-name clients like McDonald’s and Toyota. After some concert years singing back up vocals for Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Jimmy Buffett, among others, she began to break out as a solo act, scoring a soundtrack song in the film “Point Break.”

Her explosion on the pop scene came in the early 1990s, with her debut album “Tuesday Night Music Club” (the name came from her weekly participation with a group of musicians). The standard “All I Wanna Do” was on that album, establishing Crow as a major star. From there, the hits “Strong Enough,” “If It Makes You Happy,” “Soak Up the Sun” and “Everyday is a Winding Road” are familiar hits for Crow, who has generated 11 albums, with sales of 50 million units worldwide.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (RRHOF) is a museum and hall of fame located in Cleveland, Ohio. The museum documents the history of American popular music from the pop/rock and rap/hip-hop eras, and the artists, producers, engineers, and other notable figures and personnel who have influenced that development. Other 2023 inductees include Kate Bush, Missy Elliott, George Michael, Willie Nelson, Rage Against the Machine and Chicago’s own Don Cornelius (host of “Soul Train”).
