CHICAGO – The meaning of our lives is elusive, and the time we spend here too short. The Spanish foreign language film “Flowers” seeks to define the meaning, through three women trying to memorialize one man. “Flowers” opens at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre on Dec. 18th, 2015.

CHICAGO – The practice of addictive or obsessive love is often played out through a couple’s sexual energy, rather than their ability to get along in the day-to-day. This is explicitly portrayed in the new film “Love,” a France and Belgium film written and directed by Argentinian Gaspar Noé, and featuring American actor Karl Glusman and French actress Aomi Muyock as the couple.

CHICAGO – The Red Carpet was rolled out at the Music Box Theatre in Chicago on September 17th, 2015, as the 33rd “Reeling” Film Festival – the second oldest LGBTQ celebration in cinema history – had its Opening Night. The film that kicked off the fest was “Fourth Man Out,” beginning a week long showcase of LGBTQ films.

CHICAGO – The second oldest LGBTQ Film Festival is right here is Chicago, as “Reeling33” is setting up its celebratory mode again in September. Opening Night is Thursday the 17th, 2015, and the fest begins at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago, with the heartfelt coming-out comedy “Fourth Man Out” directed by Andrew Nackman and featuring Evan Todd, Parker Young, Chord Overstreet, Jon Gabrus, Jennifer Damiano and Jordan Lane Price.

CHICAGO the film may not make money or win mainstream attention, it could challenge traditional filmmaking without being constrained to fatigued formulas. That many scrutinizing eyes can see something special that Hollywood suits might nix.

CHICAGO – There is a fictional film about to be released called ‘Everest,’ but now there is the real deal, a documentary about climbing Mount Meru, one of the most difficult and spiritual peaks in the world. “Meru” is co-directed by Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. On the expedition itself, Chin was also a climber and cameraman.

CHICAGO – The 5th annual Chicago French Film Festival is six days of beret-wearing cinema, taking place July 31st-August 5th, 2015, at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago. The opening night film at 7pm is “Le Affaire SK1.”

CHICAGO – Horror films have many players, but few contenders. Writer/directors Chris Lofing and Travis Cluff debut with “The Gallows,” a “found footage” movie about a force that haunts a typical American high school, complete with familiar student types, and touches on the mysteries of unresolved events and their backlash.

CHICAGO – It was a helluva festival. The third annual 2015 Chicago Critics Film Festival (CCFF) presented films to packed houses, and also featured the stars and the directors from those films. Closing night on May 7th featured “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,” directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon.
