It’s like a bad nightmare.
On the heels of his production company starting a re-ramping of “Friday the 13th,” Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will revitalize the “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise for New Line Cinemas, reports Variety.
Platinum Dunes have produced horror remakes of “The Amityville Horror,” “The Hitcher,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” and a prequel to the “Chainsaw” remake.
Marcus Nispel, who directed that “Massacre” remake, will be directing “Friday the 13th.” Martin Campbell, whose last film was the stellar relaunch of James Bond, “Casino Royale,” will be directing another remake for Dunes: “The Birds,” starring Naomi Watts.
No word yet if “Nightmare” creator Wes Craven or Robert Edlund will be involved.
Woah.
Every one of those movies were terrible.
Michael Bay is such a curious bird. He has directed some major box-office successes (“Transformers,” “Pearl Harbor,” “Armageddon”), but on the other hand, he has produced some god-awful movies (“The Amityville Horror,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher”). He’s a much better director than producer.

Variety Error
ShockTillYouDrop points out that Variety erroneously attributed “Cloverfield’s” Odette Yustman as starring in Platinum Dunes’s “Friday the 13th.”
She’s starring in the Untitled David Goyer project. We’ve already reported on that project being set to shoot in Chicago.
ShockTillYouDrop has this plot synopsis: “An 18-year-old is haunted by a Dybbuk - the soul of a dead person barred from heaven - in the form of a young boy who perished in Auschwitz.”
