CHICAGO – It was a brutal Friday the 13th for a lot of people who work for programs on ABC as six shows have officially been given the axe in the lead-up to next week’s official Fall schedule announcement. On the other side of the coin, “Happy Endings” was saved (as we predicted and hoped).

Where do we start? How about with the good news? The best of the “Friends” rip-offs of the 2010-11 season, “Happy Endings,” will be given the time to develop into the hit that this critic is pretty sure it could eventually be (if given a better timeslot).

That’s the only good news we have for ABC fans.

After rumors that there would be a truncated, cheaper season of “Brothers & Sisters,” we flip-flopped on our original cancellation prediction. While that story clearly had some legs, perhaps the writers and actors weren’t interested in half-a-season (unlike “Chuck,” which was happy with a 13-episode order) as that program is officially over.

But the carnage doesn’t end with “Brothers & Sisters.”

Last year, ABC had to choose between “FlashForward” and “V.” They chose the latter. And now “V” has been canceled.

No one who follows TV thought “Off the Map,” “No Ordinary Family,” or “Detroit 1-8-7” would be back and they have been predictably canceled.

Finally, Matthew Perry missed his target yet again as “Mr. Sunshine” has been shown the door.

This leaves only “Better With You” and “Body of Proof” sitting on the bubble at ABC.

Stay tuned to HollywoodChicago.com for all your breaking TV news and the official schedules as they are announced next week.
