Film News: Nostalgia Rules as ‘The Artist,’ ‘Hugo’ Lead 84th Annual Academy Award Nominations
CHICAGO – Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo” became the most Oscar-nominated film of 2011 on Tuesday morning, leading the way with eleven nominations but followed closely by “The Artist” with ten nods. There were few major surprises on Oscar nomination morning but the exclusion of Albert Brooks, Tilda Swinton, and Shailene Woodley and the inclusion of the critically-reviled “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close” in Best Picture dropped the most jaws.
