CHICAGO – Few films have held up for three decades with more influence than Ridley Scott’s still-stunning “Blade Runner.” Five years ago, Warner Bros. released one of the best Blu-ray releases of 2007 with a definitive edition of the sci-fi classic. They have updated the release with a new package, UltraViolet version, and even a toy car but added nothing new in terms of special features. If you own the 25th Anniversary edition, it’s not time to upgrade yet. If you don’t own “Blade Runner,” your Blu-ray collection is incomplete.

However, I can’t argue that anyone needs a little book of pictures from the movie or a cheaply-made futuristic car. What you DO need is the “Final Cut” version of “Blade Runner” in perfectly-remastered HD. It’s one of the best transfers in the history of Blu-ray and that hasn’t changed in the last five years. You also NEED “Dangerous Days,” one of the best documentaries about a feature film ever made. It perfectly captures not just the making of “Blade Runner” but how it has endured. And it’s a film that will undoubtedly continue to endure. We will someday be watching 40th, 50th, and 75th anniversary editions of this great film. If you’ve somehow put off owning it, I can’t stress enough how much it is worth the pick-up on Blu-ray. It’s what the technology was designed to do.

Why do they keep releasing

Why do they keep releasing this? Wasn’t there a suitcase a couple of years ago???

It's Been Five Already Since the Suitcase

Believe it or not. Time flies. It’s hard to complain about a studio releasing one of their best flicks every half-decade. But, as I mentioned, there’s no reason to upgrade if you have the suitcase.
