CHICAGO – It was a weekend of spectacular film previews and premieres. The FIRST Chicago Critics Film Festival highlighted the hottest new filmmakers, had a sold-out tribute to the legendary director William Friedkin and put them together with all the cinema buffs in the Chicagoland area. And it was all accommodated within the Muvico Theatres in Rosemont, Ill.

The festival kicked off with the ultra talented actor and director Sarah Polley, who introduced the must-see documentary about her family, “Stories We Tell.” The comic book film “Sparks,” welcomed two of the actors – Jake Busey and William Katt (who also produced the film) – and director Christopher Folino. Hot new director James Ponsoldt (of last year’s “Smashed”) represented his new film, “The Spectacular Now,” and the iconic William Friedkin signed his new book and presented a 35mm print of his underrated film, “Sorcerer.” This was just part of an unprecedented line-up of films that stretched for three days from April 12th-14th. And The Chicago Critics Film Festival was dedicated to the late, great Roger Ebert.

Photographer Joe Arce was on hand to capture these Exclusive Photos of the highlighted participants at The Chicago Critics Film Festival.
