CHICAGO – In a story that could be happening right now, Brazilian director Carolina Jabor adapted a stage play into “Liquid Truth,” about a swim teacher (portrayed by Daniel de Oliveira) who experiences a smear campaign by a parent on social media after being accused of being too familiar with of his students.

The very intriguing film keeps the situation vague, as the accusation hangs in the air while the swim teacher ponders his fate, often through actions that would place his guilt or innocence in doubt. The use of the smear campaign online is very relevant, as rumors blow up into blatant incriminations against his character, without proper investigation or trial. The title is a poetic indication of the film’s perspective.

In the following Podtalk, HollywoodChicago.com spoke to director Carolina Jabor and lead actor Daniel de Oliveira regarding the approach and the themes of “Liquid Truth,” and how they use social media after their experience with the film.

“Liquid Truth” will screen at the 53rd Chicago International Film Festival on October 21st, 2017 (4pm), at the AMC River East 21, 322 East Illinois Street, Chicago. Click here for film schedules, information and to purchase tickets.
