The highly anticipated film is based on the true story of David (Steve Carell) and Nic (Timotheé Chalamet) Scheff, a father and son whose relationship is challenged by Nic’s overriding and difficult-to-shake drug addiction. The film is gritty and never blinks, in addition to punctuating the notion that despite a family’s socio-economic condition, no one is immune to the destructive powers of a person unable to rein in addictive needs. Steve Carell and Timotheé Chalamet create intuitive chemistry as a father and son.

The evening will kick off with the Opening Night Red Carpet an hour before the 7pm show time, featuring director Felix Van Groeningen. The film kicks off 11 days of film festival presentations, click the link below for all the details.

The Opening Night Film for the 54th Chicago International Film Festival is “Beautiful Boy” on October 10th, 2018 (7pm), at the AMC River East 21, 322 East Illinois Street, Chicago.
