EVENT OF THE DAY: the 57th CIFF salutes actor Rebecca Hall on the occasion of her debut film as director, “Passing” … the story of two childhood friends who find themselves on opposite sides of the color line in 1929 Harlem. Hall is a British-American actor who has won rave notices for her work in such films as “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” “Christine,” “The Dinner” and recently “The Night House.” She will walk the Red Carpet before the film, participate in a Q&A and receive the Artistic Achievement Award.

APPEARANCES OF THE DAY: 5:45pm: “For the Left Hand” … Special Guests Scheduled to Attend. 6:00pm: “The Last Forest” … Special Guests Scheduled to Attend. 7:00pm: “Any Given Day” … Special Guests Scheduled to Attend.

FILM OF THE DAY: “What Do We See When We Look at the Sky” – Kind of a head trip from Germany and Georgia (Russia), seemingly useful and useless at the same time. A couple meets, and agrees to get together, but a curse takes their memory and form away, and they are forced to allow the universe to get them together. Basically a 150 minute meditation, split into two parts, and more like a silent film style than any narrative drive. Contains sentient dogs, World Cup soccer, contests, filmmakers, 16mm film, atmospheric asides and wild stabs at romance. (click WHAT DO WE SEE for details).
