EVENT OF THE DAY: Some local “flavor” is in the picture as “Love, Charlie: The Rise and Fall of Chef Charlie Trotter” has its second screening at the Fest. The notorious Chicago chef, proprietor of “Charlie Trotter’s” restaurant, was outspoken and mercurial in this reign as the “30th Best Restaurant in the World.” Director Rebecca Halpern will make an appearance (click TROTTER for details).

FILM OF THE DAY: “Spencer” – Kristen Stewart takes on the role of 20th Century icon Princess Diana, as she celebrates the Christmas holidays with her husband Prince Charles and her in-laws. Her marriage is disintegrating and all of the requisite madness emerges that comes from such pressure, besides being a royal and one of the most famous people in world. Director Pablo Lorrain, who has focused his storytelling on Jacqueline Kennedy previously (“Jackie”) micromanages the blowback of Diana’s dread and loathing, to mixed results. The film is a bit too symbolic and twitchy, and the hallucinations that Princess D encounters don’t help. But there are some exhilarating moments, and some rescue-me poetics by the great Sally Hawkins.
