“The First Girl I Loved” is a story of two Hong Kong teenage girls, Nam and Sylvia. Nam treats their schoolgirl relationship as love, while the other deems it as growth. Years later, when Sylvia gets engaged to a man, she invites Nam to be her bridesmaid. As they spend the night before the wedding together, Nam recalls the circumstances of their relationship and the uncertainty that swirled around it. Will their reunion be a confession of love, or a farewell to their past and their youth? The film is co-directed by Candy Ng and Yeung Chiu-Hoi.

In an interview via Zoom with co-director Yeung Chiu-Hoi of “The First Girl I Loved” by Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, the origins and themes of the film are discussed …
