The recording of “We Are the World,” the USA for Africa famine relief song was recorded in ONE NIGHT on January 21st, 1985, and brought together a roster of 1980s music superstars that included songwriters Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson, plus Ray Charles, Harry Belafonte (who came up with the idea), Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Diana Ross, Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Throughout the tense timeline to get it done the famous slogan at the Los Angeles studio was “check your ego at the door.”
