AUSTIN – My first full day at the 2024 SXSW fest was slow to get going, only because my flight came in late Saturday night and I decided to go downtown and partake of a late get together event (it’s about the networking). So after registering on Sunday morning I went through the creativity expo, checked the VR exhibit, and went to my first screening, the Independent TV Pilot Program.

Series TV for streaming, web and other outlets continue to gain steam, and brings out different creative talents for these unique shows. I was there to partake of the locally produced (click for info) ”Bettendorf Talks” and it was everything … funny, mysterious and Tim Kazurinsky! But the others shined as well … “Hafrican American” was based on the creator’s true story of meeting the black folks side of his family, including his father. Poignant, funny and real. “Lucy and Sara” was a magnificently anarchistic story of two weird sisters. “Marvin is Sorry” was an incisive breakdown of the influencer age and “Neo-Dome” starred Anna Camp (“Pitch Perfect”) as you’ve never seen her before … in dystopian mode.
