Flannery O’Connor (Maya Hawke, who also portrays numerous roles in the short stories that are depicted) is a struggling writer of fiction in the late 1940s/early ‘50s who is flitting between New York City and her home is Georgia. When she begins to feel ill and breaks out in rashes, she is diagnosed with the autoimmune disease Lupus. Writing in her room for the rest of her life … she died at 39 … she produced three novels and 31 short stories, gathered in collections like “Everything that Rises Must Converge.”
