CHICAGO – The new film “A Real Pain” is written, directed and features Jesse Eisenberg, with Kieran Culkin as his unhinged cousin. This also features a strong ensemble cast portraying a a tour group, including the iconic Jennifer Grey and up-and-coming Will Sharpe. They talked to HollywoodChicago.com via Zoom.
Jesse Eisenberg is David a family man who is taking a long-promised trip with his estranged cousin Benji (Kieran Culkin) as they seek their grandmother’s old house in Poland and tour the Majdanek concentration camp. Although they were once close, Benji has gone a bit off the rails since their grandmother’s passing. However, they do get to know each other again on the trip, which includes a tour group with Marcia (Jennifer Grey) and tour guide James (Will Sharpe). Their personal relationship and family history come to the surface, most of which is not pleasant.

Jennifer Grey began her career as a young actor with a couple of classic 1980s films … “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and “Dirty Dancing.” She has been a working actor since, most notably portraying herself in a short-lived sitcom called “It’s Like, You Know …” (1999), Prime TV’s Red Oaks (2014) and the indie film “Bittersweet Symphony” (2019). And YES, an “Untitled Dirty Dancing” project is in the works.
Will Sharpe is moving up the career spectrum as an actor, especially after joining “The White Lotus” universe in its second season. He is also a writer/director of note, with feature films “Black Pond” (debut in 2011) and “The Electrical Life of Louis Wan” (2021), as well as the notable British series “Flowers” (2016) and “Girl/Haji” (2019), which earned him a British Academy Television Award.
