Grandparents & Play The Game

My grandparents met on a blind date. They disliked each other instantly.
A year later they met again at a football rally and decided to date for a while.
They dated for a year then went away to separate colleges and chose not to keep in communication.
Three years later at a mutual friend’s wedding they reunited and were married the following year.

Grandparents meeting

My paternal grandfather was a Pullman Porter working the Broadway limited from Chicago to New York. The train had a significant stop at Penn Station in Philadelphia. He would stop to make pick-ups (he also was a numbers runner) to deliver to New York. He met my grandmother at the diner in the station. She already had the two children (my dad and uncle) but they got together anyway, married and he moved her back to Chicago.
