CHICAGO – The late playwright August Wilson left a gift to the world in the form of his “American Century Cycle,” a series of plays each individually set in a decade of the 20th Century, focusing on the black experience. Chicago’s Goodman Theatre presents Wilson’s “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” now through May 19th, 2024 (click here).

Here is the plot description for “More Than a Game”:
Five talented young basketball players from Akron, Ohio star in this remarkable, true-life, coming-of-age story about uncommon friendship in the face of unprecedented fame. Their coach is a hard-driving, charismatic but inexperienced player’s father. Their leader is future NBA superstar LeBron James.
This is the story of the “Fab Five”: an improbable, nine-year journey that takes them from a decrepit, inner-city gym to the doorstep of a national high school championship. My most important mentor in life has been my mom. She’s taught me how to be resilient through adversity, strong when I’m week and how to brave all things that come my way - despite the odds that were stacked against me.
She’s been the best person in life to keep me moving through the ranks through childhood and now adulthood.

This would be my parents. They taught me right from wrong and gave me morals to live with. They taught me how to reason out my problems and to never jump to any fast conclusions. They loved and cared for me in in a loving home. they always had my back and never, never put me down. I can only hope that I can do the same for my children.
