Blu-ray Review: Interesting Bonus Material on ‘Prometheus’ Highlights Film’s Problems
Submitted by BrianTT on October 16, 2012 - 12:29pmCHICAGO – I love the ambition of “Prometheus” and think that it’s one of the most technically accomplished films of not just this year but the last several (which makes it a strong fit visually for Blu-ray) but the script has some undeniable, inarguable problems that are only amplified when one watches deleted scenes that make clear how much of the film was being comprised on the fly. It’s a Blu-ray for which the commercials have advertised all the answers would be provided. In some senses, that’s true but not in the way the studio intends.
Blu-ray Review: ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Dazzles the Eyes, Dulls the Mind
Submitted by mattmovieman on September 19, 2012 - 9:13amCHICAGO – To say that Rupert Sanders’s “Snow White and the Huntsman” is one of the year’s best-looking films would be entirely accurate, but it’s also one of the least involving. The more sumptuous the visuals became, the more infuriating I found the tedious script, which plods along from A to B to C without any real sense of urgency, before making a tired plea for a franchise. How depressing.

Film Review: Fascinating Journey to ‘Prometheus’ Makes For Bumpy Ride
Submitted by BrianTT on June 7, 2012 - 8:46amCHICAGO – Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” rides a wave of expectation, anticipation, hype, and an already-building backlash into theaters this weekend and all I have to say is something that most critics hesitate to do – you need to see this for yourself and make up your own mind.
Film Review: ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ Dwarfed By Comatose Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron
Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on June 1, 2012 - 12:18amCHICAGO – If you can stomach forgiving the film’s uneven acting, inconsistent pacing and a higgledy-piggledy script that feels like it’s still in draft mode, just zero in on the only newsworthy question about “Snow White and the Huntsman”: Who are those “dwarves”?

Blu-ray Review: Charlize Theron, Patton Oswalt Deliver in ‘Young Adult’
Submitted by BrianTT on March 19, 2012 - 9:25amCHICAGO – Jason Reitman took more risks with “Young Adult” than any film in his career. The fact that those risks paid off with a film that’s ultimately less satisfying than “Juno” or “Up in the Air” is not the point. I love to see such a talent as Reitman trying something as risky as a film with a completely loathsome protagonist for which no redemption is asked or offered. And Charlize Theron and Patton Oswalt simply rock in two of the best performances of their individual careers. I think Diablo Cody’s script lets all three of them down to a certain degree, but “Young Adult” is worth at least a rental for the performances alone.
Film News: New Full-Length ‘Prometheus’ Trailer Released
Submitted by TimBMartens on March 18, 2012 - 11:13amCHICAGO – A few months ago, the first teaser trailer for Ridley Scott’s new film “Prometheus” was released. The short trailer was met with excitement and buzz for the new film, which many consider to be the blockbuster they are most interested in seeing this summer; a summer which also includes “The Avengers,” “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and “The Dark Knight Rises” among many others.
Blu-ray Review: ‘54,’ ‘Reindeer Games’ Are Still Troubled Films
Submitted by BrianTT on March 12, 2012 - 11:48amCHICAGO – Blu-ray allows for an interesting reassessment of perceived failures as titles that haven’t been available on the next-gen format hit HD for the first time and one can see if perhaps history has been kinder to a near-miss than critics were upon its release. When I heard that “54” and the director’s cut of “Reindeer Games” were hitting Blu-ray (one can only assume the latter is tied to the collector’s edition of Ben Affleck’s “The Town” that hit last week), I wondered if their reputations as disasters were unearned and looked forward to reappreciations. They’re both still a mess.
