Blu-ray Review: ‘Sinister’ Has Strong Visuals, Great Lead Performance
Submitted by BrianTT on March 4, 2013 - 7:33pmCHICAGO – Scott Derrickson’s “Sinister” was beloved in certain horror-loving circles (including a rave from our very own Adam Fendelman) and it’s indicative of the state of the genre that this film’s flaws were overlooked simply because it’s so undeniably vastly superior to junk like “Paranormal Activity 4” and “The Last Exorcism, Part II.” There are some great ideas in “Sinister” and a truly strong central performance from the always-good Ethan Hawke but the film meanders at 110 minutes and the final act proves that pacing problems will be the most horrific thing about a poorly-written horror film.
Film Review: The Most Scary Film of 2012, ‘Sinister’ is Both a Voyeur’s Heaven & Hell
Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on October 13, 2012 - 5:05pmCHICAGO – We have forgotten what it’s like to be scared by an actually scary movie. “Sinister” – from producer Jason Blum (“Insidious” and all four “Paranormal Activity” films) – is the first film in 2012 to remind us.

DVD Review: ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’ Fires Up Screen With Superb Acting
Submitted by mattmovieman on July 8, 2010 - 1:23pmCHICAGO – Antoine Fuqua certainly can’t be faulted for a lack of enthusiasm. His movies often skate on the edge of silliness, and occasionally dive headfirst into the wretched waters of overwrought melodrama. But for all his flaws, Fuqua never seems to be phoning it in. His tireless energy and intensity bolsters the impact of his stories, no matter how preposterous they may be.
Blu-Ray Review: Surprisingly Clever, Original ‘Daybreakers’
Submitted by BrianTT on May 12, 2010 - 1:14pmCHICAGO – “Daybreakers” didn’t make much of a dent at the box office ($30 million domestically) but I expect that a number of hardcore horror nuts will love this film when they finally catch up with it on Blu-ray and DVD. Not only is it an original, clever film but the Blu-ray release for it is a stunner with spectacular special features and technical specs.

Don Cheadle, Wesley Snipes, Richard Gere Are ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on March 5, 2010 - 10:07amCHICAGO – The “thin blue line,’ that imaginary border that separates society between order and chaos, is experienced on a daily basis by the police “force.” The human beings knighted with this responsibility are “Brooklyn’s Finest.”
Interview: Wesley Snipes, Director Antoine Fuqua on ‘Brooklyn’s Finest’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on March 4, 2010 - 4:16pmCHICAGO – Wesley Snipes is a great dresser, among other talents. The coolness and intuitive skills that he had displayed in “Blade,” “White Men Don’t Jump’ and “Passenger 57” is in evidence again with his role of Caz in “Brooklyn’s Finest.”

CHICAGO – In the early part of the last decade, Michael and Peter Spierig (The Spierig Brothers) debuted with the unique zombie cult hit “Undead” and horror nuts waited to see what they’d do next. It took way too long but the brothers are back with the stylish, original “Daybreakers,” a vampire film that injects new life into an often-dead genre.
