Hart of Dixie

CHICAGO – Every year from about February to May, TV pundits play the cancellation game. We look at the ratings, read about picked-up pilots, and try to figure out what the networks will renew and cancel. Two of the biggest question marks of this past season were The CW’s “Hart of Dixie” and “Nikita,” but they were both spared the sharp end of the axe and are returning this month to the air. Why? CHICAGO – There have been a number of surprising announcements of new nights for hit shows this week (“Two and a Half Men,” “Glee,” “Revenge,” “Community”) and The CW closed out the trend this morning by announcing their Fall schedule and revealing that “America’s Next Top Model” and “Supernatural” will swap evenings.

CHICAGO – Well, now this is a bit unpredictable. While the other networks have fallen relatively in line with predictions (CBS, NBC, and ABC have yet to do anything that we didn’t predict in our feature earlier this week), The CW is shaking it up a bit as they just announced the renewal of “Nikita,” “Hart of Dixie,” and “Gossip Girl” (for a sixth and final season of 11 episodes) while TV By the Numbers reports that the network has signed on five new dramas. Where do they put them?

CHICAGO – It’s that crazy time of year when network executives have to make the tough decisions. What do they cancel? What do they give another chance? What do they move? These are no small choices. Not only do they impact your favorite shows, but they can also determine the overall success of a network and lead to millions of dollars made or lost.

CHICAGO- The CW officially announced its schedule of finale episodes today, as well as the premiere date of a new series. The new series “The L.A. Complex” is set to premiere on Tuesday, April 24, while several shows, including the series finale of “One Tree Hill,” have their finale date set.

CHICAGO – None are doing well by traditional ratings scales but The CW doesn’t have the same expectations as other networks and so they not-too-surprisingly gave full-season orders to new shows “Hart of Dixie,” “Ringer,” and “The Secret Circle” this week, ending speculation that one might be canceled. Given the low ratings for all of them, especially “Secret,” one can safely assume that they had nothing interesting waiting in the wings to replace them.

CHICAGO – The new FOX prehistoric series “Terra Nova” was a bit of a disappointment in its premiere episode Monday night, posting a 3.1 rating in the highly coveted 18-49 age group. The show premiered for two hours from 7-9 p.m. CST.

CHICAGO – There is a certain undefinable screen presence that makes some actresses look more comfortable on TV than others. Sarah Michelle Gellar has it. Juliana Margulies has it. Edie Falco definitely has it.

CHICAGO – Do you want the good news or the bad news, TV fans? The good news is that the upcoming crop of new Fall programs from the five major networks (totaling 27 new shows) is not as bad as last year’s incredibly-horrible debut slate. The bad news is that it’s still pretty bad. There is no “Lost,” no “Glee,” no “Modern Family,” no instant stand-outs of any kind.

CHICAGO – The CW announces a relatively aggressive Fall 2011 schedule with details on four new shows, one every night for the majority of the work week. With stars like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rachel Bilson, and Mario Lopez making their way to the struggling network, perhaps this is the year that The CW turns it around.
