Film Review: ‘Luca’ Uses Queer-Bait Hoping to Reel in a Hit, Ends Up Getting Snagged
Submitted by JonHC on June 20, 2021 - 11:50pmCHICAGO – Even as an adult, I am still in awe of how effective animated features are as narrative vehicles. As a kid, it was the thing I would consume the most, gorging myself into a stupor.

As a kid, it was the thing I would consume the most, gorging myself into a stupor. Film Review: ‘Good Boys’ Misses the Mark But Manages to Land
Submitted by PatrickMcD on August 16, 2019 - 5:14pmCHICAGO – The innocence of childhood is about to be wrecked for the gazillionth time, c’est la vie. “Good Boys” is a raunchy film with foul-mouthed middle schoolers going on wacky adventures. Submitted by PatrickMcD on September 13, 2018 - 4:15pmCHICAGO – By the standards of Predator sequels, “The Predator” is easily the best of the bunch. But that’s a depressingly low bar to clear… kind of like saying you got the nicest looking “Yugo” on the lot. Coming 31 years after Arnold Schwarzenegger battled the original “one ugly mother f**ker,” this reboot brings the space alien with the heat seeking vision to the suburbs.
Film Review: ‘The Book of Henry’ Generates a Different Story Vibe
Submitted by PatrickMcD on June 17, 2017 - 8:08amCHICAGO – There are some total exasperations in “The Book of Henry”… numerous ones that are almost deal breakers. But somehow, some way, the strange twists and ideas take over, and the film becomes fable-like, examining a different line of story elements that switch from one character to another. Director Colin Trevorrow (“Jurassic Park” reboot) reveals a love in what he is doing in this film, and that also counts for something.
