Blu-ray Review: ‘Non-Stop’ Has Formulaic Script But Fresh Thrills
Submitted by NickHC on June 10, 2014 - 3:54pmCHICAGO – “Non-Stop” gave audiences more than just “‘Taken’ on a plane” when it opened last February, and showed that the inflight experience is efficiently vulnerable action thriller territory. With audiences having taken a break from commercial airline chaos after 9/11, “Non-Stop” brought viewers back into the peril of an unsafe flight, but with a leading hero by Liam Neeson at the helm. Nevertheless, even when knowing how the flight ends, “Non-Stop” is a refined thriller that still has a grip on one’s attention in a second viewing as well.
Film Review: Liam Neeson Can’t Bring ‘Non-Stop’ in On-Time
Submitted by BrianTT on February 27, 2014 - 1:20pmI’m a sucker for a well-toasted slice of escapism that employs a singular setting to maximum impact. Liam Neeson trapped on a plane with a devious killer who’s trying to extort $150 million from him? Where do line up to buy a ticket? Seriously, this is the kind of Oscar counter-programming that I love this time of year—turn off your mind and take a trip with “Non-Stop”.

Film Review: Performances Carry Update of Horror Classic ‘Carrie’
Submitted by BrianTT on October 17, 2013 - 12:00pmCHICAGO – Director Kimberly Peirce (“Boys Don’t Cry”) doesn’t convey the dread or atmosphere of Stephen King’s “Carrie” to a degree that elevates it to the source material’s true potential but she does handle performance in a way that’s rare in the genre, making this remake one of the best horror films of the season.
Interview: Chloe Grace Moretz Takes on Iconic Role of ‘Carrie’
Submitted by BrianTT on October 16, 2013 - 2:54pmChloe Grace Moretz is only 16 and already has 50 credits to her name, including “(500) Days of Summer,” “Kick-Ass,” and “Let Me In.” She filmed “The Amityville Horror” remake on the North side of the city when she was only 5 and returned this week to talk about starring in her first lead role, the title part in Kimberly Peirce’s remake of the Stephen King classic, “Carrie.”
Interview: Joseph Gordon-Levitt Invokes Christopher Nolan in Directorial ‘Don Jon’ Debut
Submitted by HollywoodChicago.com on September 24, 2013 - 6:55pmCHICAGO – Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a unique dichotomy. Part independent and part mainstream film actor, he’s managed to succeed as both. And with this Friday’s release of “Don Jon,” add to that list a first-time writer and director. But none of it could have been without Christopher Nolan.

Blu-ray Review: Julianne Moore Can’t Save ‘6 Souls’
Submitted by BrianTT on July 7, 2013 - 8:44pmCHICAGO – From the writer of “Identity” comes the misguided “6 Souls,” a film known as “Shelter” when it was originally scheduled for release back in 2010 and now basically getting a straight-to-Blu-ray release after a dismal worldwide gross of under $1 million. Fans of the great Julianne Moore may be curious. You can still love Julianne Moore and not feel the need to see “6 Souls.” Trust me.
Interview: Directors David Siegel, Scott McGehee of ‘What Maisie Knew’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on May 27, 2013 - 7:39amCHICAGO – The story of “What Maisie Knew” may be unusual, but the reflection of the subject matter fits perfectly within the patterns of contemporary family culture. Directors Scott McGehee and David Siegel create a scenerio in which a custody battle for a little girl named Maisie becomes more about the parent’s egos than her care.
