TV News: Audiences Refuse to Check Into ‘666 Park Avenue’
Submitted by BrianTT on October 1, 2012 - 9:10amCHICAGO – The new Sunday ABC line-up of “Once Upon a Time,” “Revenge,” and “666 Park Avenue” looked very promising on paper. I think I even called it one of the smartest moves of the season. I was wrong. While the first two sophomore programs had decent ratings on their first night of the ‘12-13 season, “666” is empty, producing the kind of numbers that start the cancellation clock ticking. ABC just can’t win at 9pm on Sunday nights.
TV Review: CBS Hit Returns With Goofy Edition of ‘The Amazing Race’
Submitted by BrianTT on February 19, 2012 - 4:03pmCHICAGO – One of the reasons that CBS’s “The Amazing Race” has been as critically-acclaimed and award-winning as it has over its successful run is the balance of regular people with more typical larger-than-life reality personalities. The show’s stellar editing team is the main reason the program works and host Phil Keoghan would be right behind in close second.
TV News: ‘Sunday Night Football’ Holds Sunday Reign Over ‘Pan Am,’ ‘The Simpsons,’ ‘The Amazing Race’
Submitted by TimBMartens on September 26, 2011 - 11:33amCHICAGO – The overnight totals have come in and it is no surprise to find that football was the leader of Sunday night. The Steelers and Colts squared off at Lucas Oil Stadium and reached a 7.2 rating with adults 18-49. While this is the top rating of the night, it is down 22% from last year’s week three Sunday night football matchup when the Jets took on the Dolphins in Miami.
TV Review: ABC’s ‘Take the Money and Run’ Gets Too Goofy
Submitted by BrianTT on August 2, 2011 - 10:15amCHICAGO – The first ten minutes or so of ABC’s new reality competition series “Take the Money and Run” is relatively promising and entertaining. Then it all gets very, very silly.
TV Review: ABC’s ‘Expedition Impossible’ Offers Boring Journey
Submitted by BrianTT on June 23, 2011 - 11:50amCHICAGO – Have all reality shows merely become hybrids of programs that came before? Doesn’t it feel like it? Put two to three former hits in a blender and try and create a new hit. This week’s latest mash-up (and we’ll have another much-more-obnoxious one in a few days) combines elements of “The Amazing Race” and “Survivor” into ABC’s “Expedition Impossible,” another mediocre summer offering.
TV Review: ‘The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business’ Offers Second Chance
Submitted by BrianTT on February 20, 2011 - 12:37pmCHICAGO – The Emmy Award-winning CBS hit “The Amazing Race” returns tonight, Feb. 20th, 2011, with a group of familiar faces, most of them red from embarrassment at the mistakes they made last time and looking to correct them on the new season, appropriately titled “Unfinished Business.”
TV Review: New Season of ‘The Amazing Race’ Hardly a Game-Changer
Submitted by mattmovieman on September 25, 2010 - 3:06pmCHICAGO – There is absolutely nothing amazing about “The Amazing Race.” There’s also nothing that’s exciting, innovative, insightful or original about this long-running reality contest, despite the fact that it’s garnered twelve Primetime Emmys.
TV Review: ‘The Amazing Race’ on CBS Begins 14th Race Around the World
Submitted by BrianTT on February 13, 2009 - 3:46pmTelevision Rating: 4.5/5.0 |
CHICAGO – For six years there has been an Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality Competition Program and for every one of those years the same show has walked home with the trophy, beating series like “Project Runway,” “Survivor,” and “American Idol”. That show is “The Amazing Race”. Based on the strength of the premiere, it seems likely the producers of this CBS mainstay should probably make room for Emmy #7.
