Here is the synopsis for “Into the Abyss”:

In his fascinating examination of a triple-homicide case in Conroe, Texas, Werner Herzog probes the human psyche to explore why people kill – and why a state kills. In intimate conversations with those involved – including 28-year-old death-row inmate Michael Perry (who was scheduled to die eight days after his interview with Herzog) – the filmmaker achieves what he describes as “a gaze into the abyss of the human soul”.

Herzog’s inquiries also extend to the other convicted killer, Jason Burkett; his father, also incarcerated; a woman who lost both her mother and brother in the crime; as well as a chaplain and former executioner who’ve been with death-row prisoners as they’ve taken their final breaths. As he’s so often done before, Herzog’s investigation unveils layers of humanity and reveals an enlightening trip out of ominous territory.

Death Penalty

It doesn’t deter anyone away from crime and the system is too flawed.

Death Penalty

It’s right in cases of extreme violence. Justice must be obtained for the victim.

Death Penalty

I am not God so I have no right to say but I feel like if you kill em what is that teaching them. If a horrible crime has been commited they should truly suffer, for many people death is away out.

I don’t think the death

I don’t think the death penalty can be qualified as only right or wrong.

What is wrong is when an innocent person is put to death for a crime that he/she did not commit.

What is wrong is when good citizens have to pay to keep a guilty violent criminal, who will never again be a contributing member of society, in prison for decades.

The Death Penalty

I am really torn about this issue. There are some cases that are so horrific and heart wrenching that I want to scream, give him the chair. But taking a life for another always feels wrong.

Is the death penalty right or wrong? Why?

I’m on the fence on this one. In some situations where there is not enough evidence against someone who is innocent and gets the death penalty then it’s wrong. On the other hand, someone whose committed crimes and killed people just because he’s mad; then yes the death penalty is right. Depends on the situation.

This is a pretty one. I want

This is a pretty one. I want to say yes and no as the comment did. Its hard when the crimes are horrific, yet I sometimes think they deserve it.
