Inspired by a true story, the film is about intrigue surrounding a organized ring of test cheaters, procuring answers in advance of high school exams, and running a business associated with that cheating. ‘Bad Genius,’ Directed by Nattawut ‘Baz’ Poonpiriya, is the Fall Finale for Chicago’s Asian Pop-Up Cinema Series

The Asian Pop-Up Cinema series – founded by Chicago film program veteran Sophia Wong Boccio – is a revolving showcase of diverse Asian films, with Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korean, the Phillippines and Thailand all represented for the 2017 Fall Season, in films with English subtitles. Screenings occur at the AMC River East 21 in downtown Chicago, the Wilmette Theater in Wilmette, Illinois, and various locations for special free screenings (link to details below).
In the following Podtalk, director Baz Poonpiriya goes over the societal pressures that inspire cheating at that level, and his own philosophies regarding that action.
