CHICAGO – The late playwright August Wilson left a gift to the world in the form of his “American Century Cycle,” a series of plays each individually set in a decade of the 20th Century, focusing on the black experience. CHICAGO – One of the more popular series at the 58th Chicago International Film Festival (CIFF) – with Opening Night on October 12th, 2022 – is the After Dark series. The title screams horror films, but the series also focuses on outliers in categories such as sci-fi, fantasy and the just plain bizarre. Raul Benitez is a veteran curator, programmer and screener for various festivals and film entities, including his second year programming the After Dark series at the 58th CIFF. He is also the Senior Programmer for the Midwest Film Festival, and programs at Comfort Station Logan Square, Full Spectrum Features and Nightingale Cinema. He was honored with an “Esteemed Artist Award” in 2022 by the City of Chicago.
