CHICAGO – Maria Bamford has been a top comic force since her breakthrough in the first decade of the millennium. She will be appearing on the Super Bowl Sunday edition of CBS-TV’s @FTER MIDNIGHT, the new show hosted by Taylor Tomlinson after “Late Night with Stephen Colbert.” Appearing alongside her will be A-listers Wayne Brady and Kevin Smith.

Maria Bamford grew up in Minnesota, and attended college there and at the Scottish University of Edinburgh. She began her stand up career while at the University of Minnesota at age 19. She broke into professional comedy as a cartoon VoiceOver artist in the early aughts, and used the next decade raising her profile with a number of comedy albums, a Nickelodeon cartoon, YouTube web series and a stint on the reboot of “Arrested Development.” Her cult show “Lady Dynamite” was on Netflix for two seasons.

While this was going on, she also had bouts of depression and was hospitalized for a series of nervous breakdowns. She has always been candid about this circumstance, and last fall at the 2023 Chicago Humanities Festival she did a showcase in association with her new book, “I’ll Join Your Cult: A Memoir of Mental Illness and the Quest to Belong Anywhere.” Photographer Joe Arce of HollywoodChicago.com got the Exclusive Photos at the October event.
