CHICAGO – “Captain America: Civil War” is more of an “Avengers” movie than it is a Captain America movie. But that’s okay because this is easily the best Avengers movie Marvel Studios has ever made, and it also might be the best movie the studio has ever made.
Interview: Stephan James Portrays Olympian Jesse Owens in ‘Race’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on February 19, 2016 - 11:19amCHICAGO – In the history of America, there are moments when champions rose above their societal status and circumstance. And so it came to pass that African American Jesse Owens – during one of most difficult times in America for blacks – won medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, representing America and striking a blow against Adolf Hitler, four years before WWII. Owen’s story is told in the new film, “Race,” and he is portrayed by actor Stephan James.
Film Review: Lives Interact in ‘The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them’
Submitted by PatrickMcD on September 22, 2014 - 2:09pmCHICAGO – There was something blank within “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them,” although it dealt with the issues of loss, family and reconciliation. The all star cast, including Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy and William Hurt, add their performing spins to the story.
Blu-ray Review: ‘Twilight’ Wannabe ‘The Host’ Hits New YA Low
Submitted by BrianTT on July 15, 2013 - 6:15pmCHICAGO – Perhaps it’s something that every generation thinks but I really feel like the teens of this generation who get sucked into absolute nonsense like the truly horrendous “The Host,” just released on Blu-ray and DVD, are being intellectually damaged. They deserve better than this nonsense, arguably the worst movie of the year. And I’ve seen “Movie 43.”
Slideshow: Exclusive Photos of ‘Twilight’ Author Stephenie Meyer, ‘The Host’ Stars
Submitted by PatrickMcD on March 30, 2013 - 1:19amCHICAGO – Stephenie Meyer is one of the most famous authors in America, because of the phenomenon of her “Twilight” series of books, and their subsequent film versions. She embarks on a new chapter with “The Host,” which was published in 2008, and has just been adapted to the screen. Meyer made a promotional appearance in Chicago recently with co-stars from “The Host,” Max Irons and Jake Abel.
Film Review: Despite Sci-Fi Intrigue, ‘The Host’ Favors Teen Romance
Submitted by PatrickMcD on March 29, 2013 - 8:05amCHICAGO – Author Stephenie Meyer can’t help herself. Despite breaking out from the “Twilight” saga and creating science fiction in her latest novel, it still features angst-ridden teen romance, which becomes less important versus the bizarre other worldly infiltration in the film adaptation of “The Host.”

Blu-ray Review: HBO’s Average ‘Too Big to Fail’ Stages Star-Studded Talkathon
Submitted by mattmovieman on June 19, 2012 - 8:39amCHICAGO – Sometimes a film is so good that it casts a shadow over all the other pictures that have the misfortune of sharing striking similarities. HBO’s star-studded adaptation of Andrew Ross Sorkin’s book, “Too Big to Fail: The Inside Story of How Wall Street and Washington Fought to Save the Financial System—and Themselves” does its titular subject matter justice—but not nearly as well as J.C. Chandor’s “Margin Call.”
Blu-Ray Review: Steven Spielberg’s Spectacular ‘A.I.: Artificial Intelligence’
Submitted by BrianTT on April 11, 2011 - 10:16amCHICAGO – When I was first introduced to the world of Blu-ray, I went through the mental rolodex of films that I knew I would one day want to see in HD. There are obvious choices like “Lord of the Rings” and “The Matrix,” but I actually remember thinking about the controversial final act of “A.I.: Artificial Intelligence” and how incredible it would look in 1080p. Years later, the film has finally been released on the format and while it may not live up to the high expectations, the movie alone makes this a worthwhile purchase.
