“The New Bauhaus” refers to a Chicago school of design that began in 1937, under the auspice of Lazlo Moholy-Nagy, who came from the German Bauhaus school of the 1920s run by Walter Gropius. Through the 10 years under his influence, the evolution of Chicago (and American) design aesthetic came to a new form at the school. Director Nahmias is a producer/director/writer completing her second documentary, and her commentary subject includes Moholy-Nagy’s daughter Hattula, who will appear at the screenings of the doc.
In a Podtalk with Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, director Alysa Nahmias talks about the bridge Moholy-Nagy created between the German Bauhaus and Chicago, and his enduring legacy.
