CHICAGOVanessa Hudgens, the star of the massively successful “High School Musical” franchise, has reportedly auditioned for a key role in “New Moon,” the upcoming sequel to “Twilight”.

Ashley Greene, a cast member from “Twilight” who will also appear in “New Moon,” revealed to MTV on Monday that Vanessa Hudgens has tried out for the role of werewolf Leah Clearwater, a major character from Stephenie Meyer’s second book in her insanely popular book franchise.

Greene was speaking to the music network after the 66th-annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif. on Sunday night and revealed that the singing superstar auditioned for the role, even noting, “I think she’d be great.”

“New Moon” is slated for release on Nov. 20, 2009 from Summit Entertainment even though it hasn’t started filming or, clearly, even casting yet. The “Twilight” sequel will be directed by Chris Weitz and star Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and, maybe, Vanessa Hudgens.

This is the second piece of “New Moon” casting news in just the last week, as rumors of Lautner not reprising his role as Jacob Black caused quite a stir, especially on our slideshow for Summit’s 2009 release slate.

Director Chris Weitz revealed on Stephenie Meyer’s web site last week that Lautner would reprise the role, saying, “The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series.

But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of ‘Twilight’ the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in ‘New Moon;’ and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.”

The 20-year-old Hudgens has appeared in all three “High School Musical” movies, “Thunderbirds,” and episodes of “Drake & Josh” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”. She’ll next be seen in “Bandslam” later this year. Ironically, Vanessa Hudgens made her debut in “Thirteen,” directed by Catherine Hardwicke, the woman behind the helm for “Twilight” but not returning for “New Moon”.

“Twilight”, starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, from director Catherine Hardwicke, has grossed $178 million domestically, putting the sequel, “New Moon,” into production immediately. Other books in the Stephenie Meyer series include “Eclipse” and “Breaking Dawn”.

i know right??!! give some

i know right??!! give some other people…talented people, i might add, a chance. vanessa always irritated me and she needs to just stick to disney productions that goes with that ‘perky’ little look of hers. vanessa’s a talentless little thing…as are most disney people, and will definitely ruin the series.

she freakin better not get the part-

NO. Why oh Why.. I cant

NO. Why oh Why.. I cant picture her in new moon. She’s better off with high school musical. yea that’s right she’s better off that way

i don't understand

i seriously just don’t understand. Leah is in New Moon ONCE! And during her ‘scene’ she’s talking on the phone in the background. I understand that Leah becomes a major character in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn especially but as far as New Moon goes i don’t think Summit should waste their money casting Leah. i mean if they’re going to edit [which they will] then Leah being in New Moon is an extremely minor roll that would be good to cut, especially if they’re going to cast a big star like Vanessa.

Dont Let her Please

Vanessa would not be good for twilight. It just would attract more little kids to the movies. Vanessa is not a good actress for Twilight. Please do not let her be in New Moon!

I SUPPORT VANESSA

WHO ARE YOU ALL SHIT HOLES CALLING HER NAMES SUCH AS WHORE,BITCH ….

SHE IS SUITABLE FOR THE MOVIENEW MOONCUZ I KNOW SHE HAVE WHAT IT TAKES,
JUST BECAUSE YOU SEE HER IN MUSICAL MOVIES THAT DOESN’T MEAN THAT SHE WILL RUIN THE MOVIE OR ENDED IT UP SINGING IN THE MOVIE IF YOU ALL THINK THIS WAY
YEAH WE ALL HOPE FOR THE BEST FOR THE ROLE OF LEAH, BUT IT JUST HARSH TO JUDGE IT IN THIS KIND OF WAY

HAVE YOU GUYS EVER CONSIDER THAT VANESSA HASN’T STAR IN ANY HORROR,ACTION-PACK VAMPIRE MOVIES
HAVE YOU?…….

SHE SHOULD GET THE CHANCE,FOR A CHANGE IN ANYBODY LIFE CURRENTLY, WON’T IT BE BETTER TO SEE HER IN THIS KIND OF ROLE….

WELL YAALL THINK JUST CUZ OF HER NUDE PHOTOS LEAKED EVERYWHERE,AND IT WOULD BE A BAD THING TO CAST HER IN THE MOVIE
FOR THOSE YAALL OUT THERE THINK IN THIS KINDA WAY, LET ME TELL YOU A THING,
STOP BEING NEGATIVE OR JUDGMENTAL

I REALLY HOPE VANESSA GET THE ROLE OF LEAH, WHICH CAN BE THE NEXT BIG SUCCESS FOR HER LIFETIME…….
